Azza Haider (b. 1983,
Damascus) is a contemporary Syrian painter. She
graduated from "Esmod" at the Université Saint-Joseph, Campus des
Sciences Sociales, Damascus, and furthered her artistic education by studying
painting at the Institute of Adham Ismail Fine Arts in Damascus. In 2013, she was awarded second prize in the youth
competition at "al riwaq gallery" in Damascus.
Haider
states that her paintings draw inspiration from nature, serving as a form of
"meditation of forgetfulness" and an "escape from reality into a
calmer and more peaceful world".
She believes that nature itself is a "humanitarian
case" that prompts deeper discovery.
Azza
Haider is described as a Syrian impressionist painter , primarily working with
aquarelle
(watercolor) on cartoon. Her
choice of transparent watercolors allows for a balance between spontaneity and thoughtful
execution.
Her
works are deeply inspired by natural landscapes, particularly featuring trees
and vast skies.
The
watercolors create soft, diffused effects, lending a calm, peaceful, and almost
meditative atmosphere to her paintings.
She often employs muted and
harmonious color schemes, such as sepia tones or serene blues and grays, with
occasional subtle hints of other colors like yellow or orange to depict light
or distant horizons.
While representational, the
forms of trees and landscapes are often simplified and softened, contributing
to the impressionistic feel where the essence and mood of the scene are
prioritized over sharp detail.
Her use of transparent layers
effectively captures the nuances of light and vast open spaces, creating a
sense of depth and tranquility.
Overall, Azza Haider's art
offers a contemplative journey into nature, utilizing the delicate qualities of
watercolor to evoke a serene and introspective experience.
