Ghassan
Akl (b. 1973, Dier Alzour, Syria) is a Syrian artist who studied fine art in
1998. He
believes that painting transcends mere colors, elements, and techniques,
considering each artwork a story rich with details and lines that "move and
breathe as if they are alive and real". He
attributes deep feelings to colors, stating they "catch your heart and
brain". Akl has a profound connection to
his heritage, reading "the stories of heritage in the colors of the
desert," to which he belongs, along with Alfurat.
Akl
has extensively participated in numerous joint and solo exhibitions, as well as
various artistic forums. He
also currently teaches art at Albashaer Private School.
Ghassan
Akl primarily works with mixed media on canvas. His artworks, as
depicted in the provided images, often feature textured surfaces and a palette
that seems to draw inspiration from the "colors of the desert".
The compositions frequently include abstract forms and
lines that suggest movement and organic qualities, aligning with his philosophy
that lines "move and breathe as if they are alive and real".
While abstract, there are
often subtle hints of forms that could be interpreted as figures or landscapes,
creating a sense of depth and narrative within the non-representational
elements. The use of mixed media allows for a rich layering of textures and
visual interest, inviting the viewer to explore the intricate details and
emotional depth he aims to convey through his colors and compositions. His
style can be characterized by its evocative nature, blending abstract
expression with a profound sense of place and heritage, and a focus on the emotional
impact of color.
